  15.      We added a BENCHMARK feature.  Look for it at Pro~Scribe's Results
  16.      Summary.  What's a Benchmark?
  17.  
  18.       * Suppose Pro~Scribe tells you you've written something at the
  19.         10th grade reading level.  Is that appropriate?
  20.  
  21.       * It depends.  Who is your audience?  If you're writing for
  22.         an educated, technically sophisticated audience, it's probably
  23.         okay.  But for average adults or children, it may be too complex.
  24.  
  25.       * Once Pro~Scribe displays it's results summary, press [B] to see
  26.         how your writing compares with different benchmarks:

  28.            - Average Adults
  29.            - The New York Times
  30.            - The Wall Street Journal
  31.            - Technical Journals
  32.            - Children's Books

  34.         You might come to different conclusions about your writing
  35.         depending on which benchmark you compare it against.  Focus on
  36.         the benchmark that's closest to your audience.  THEN decide if
  37.         your writing should be edited.

  43.      We added a SECOND version of Pro~Scribe Express (PSE).  Sent
  44.      to registered users, PSE is a RAM-resident program to give you
  45.      feedback on your writing WHILE YOU'RE WRITING.  Just mark the
  46.      text on your screen, and PSE gives you instant feedback.  The
  47.      new version of PSE gives you more feedback -- including a line-by-
  48.      line analysis of what's on the screen (like Pro~Scribe's "running
  49.      grade level" analysis).

  51.      We also added phrases to the Wasted.Wrd file -- to give you more
  52.      feedback on your writing.

  60.      We added compatibility with WordPerfect (5.0) and Microsoft Word

  70.      We added an on-line Thesaurus, PLUS a second program to help you

  76.      We also increased the capacity of the Frequent.Wrd option from 50 to
  77.      100 words (at the request of a registed user).  The Frequent.Wrd option:
  78.       * Helps ensure your results are 'realistic'
  79.       * Prevents Pro~Scribe from nagging you about words you're
  80.         sure your audience understands.

  90.      PS EXPRESS    (registered users)

  92.      PS Express (PSE) is the RAM-resident (TSR) version of PS.  That
  93.      means you run it once, and it waits in memory for you to call it up
  94.      when you need help most - while you're actually writing.  Here's how:
  95.       * Run your word processor and start writing. Need Help? Press Alt-Space.
  96.       * PSE comes to life.  Highlight the text you want PSE to examine, and,
  97.         before you can blink, a window pops up with comments about your
  98.         writing, and a summary of your words and sentences.

  100.      PSE is amazing, immensely helpful - like having an English teacher
  101.      looking over your shoulder, gently coaching you as you write.
  102.      See something you want to fix?  Edit it, then call PSE up again to
  103.      see the improvements.

  105.      PSE may eliminate those long, frustrating write/edit/re-write cycles --
  106.      you edit as you go.  PSE can save you enormous amounts of time!

  108.      WORD WASTERS
  109.  
  110.      PS now scans your writing for the kinds of writing mistakes we all
  111.      make, the traps we fall into, at least once in awhile.  We call
  112.      these traps Word Wasters - words or phrases that are wordy,
  113.      confusing, often misused, or just plain unnecessary.  There are 5
  114.      categories:
  115.       * Wasted Words         * Misused Words         * Tongue Waggers
  116.       * Nouns-To-Verbs                               * Passive Voice
  117.  
  118.      PS' Word Waster feature helps you eradicate the jargon and 'excess
  119.      baggage' from your writing.  And you can customize this feature:
  120.       * Include your own 'pets' - jargon or phrases you want to avoid.
  121.       * Edit other peoples' work?  Add the jargon they use/mistakes they make.
  122.         Then give them a copy of PS' results with your comments.  Better yet,
  123.         ask THEM to run their work through PS BEFORE giving it to you.

  125.      RUNNING GRADE LEVEL - GRAPHIC AND PATTERN SUMMARIES, MUCH EASIER EDITING
  126.  
  127.      PS' Running Grade Level (RGL) option shows the complexity of your
  128.      writing line-by-line.  Earlier PS versions printed the RGL beside
  129.      your text. This remains, but we added TWO graphics showing you: 1)
  130.      On ONE screen, RGLs for 100s of lines of text; and, 2) Your sentence
  131.      patterns against an ideal. And version 3.5 adds an option flag
  132.      Complex Words & Word Wasters in EACH LINE.  This makes editing your
  133.      writing MUCH easier.

  135.      FREQUENT.WRD  (registered users)
  136.  
  137.      PS flags the long, complex words you use.  But some long words are
  138.      easily understood by most people (eg., 'sometimes').  PS shouldn't
  139.      nag you about these; now it doesn't have to.  The Frequent.Wrd file
  140.      has words PS won't list as complex, nor will it flag these in RGL
  141.      reports.  You can cus- tomize Frequent.Wrd:  add long words you
  142.      think your audience understands.

  146.      PS 3.x + is MUCH faster than earlier versions.  Here's a comparison:
  147.      the time it took PS to analyze 3 different files.  NOTE:  While 3.x
  148.      does much more than earlier versions, it zips through much faster.
